ITEC and VTCT have responded to the Covid crisis by creating a new qualification which takes 4-5 hours to complete. It is the Award in Infection Prevention (COVID-19) for Complementary Therapies and Sports Massage and is highly recommended for all therapists who have taken our Anatomy and Physiology Course to make sure you work safely with the public.
It is important to know how to prevent the spread of infection from this virus and covers:
What is a corona virus
How this virus spreads
Correct use of Personal Protective equipment
Knowing how to decontaminate
Signs and symptoms of the disease including high temperature, continuous cough, loss of smell and taste
Knowing hoe to control spread of the disease
Routes of infection; respiratory tract, skin, digestive tract, reproductive tract
Sources of Infection such as mucous and body fluids
Chain of infection including definition of a pathogen
damage to body tissues
mode of transmission eg coughing and sneezing
those at risk for example, those aged 70 or over, those with underlying health conditions such as diabetes, chronic heart disease such as heart failure, chronic liver disease such as hepatitis, chronic kidney disease, chronic (long-term) respiratory diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchitis or emphysema, weakened immunity due to chemotherapy or the use of medicines such as steroids, those seriously overweight (BMI of 40 or above), those who are pregnant, chronic neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), a learning disability or cerebral palsy, indigenous populations ? High risk (clinically extremely vulnerable) for example, solid organ transplant recipients, people with specific cancers: people with cancer
Many therapists who have taken our anatomy and physiology course will have already studied common pathologies in detail and this qualification is an important addition to their portfolio.
It is a level 2 qualification that can be undertaken online.
